The Fay Allison Gallery is proud to presentBefore the Burning Rays of the Rising Sun, an exhibition featuring photographs by Christopher Talbot and sculptures by Rebecca Talbot, on display through January 30.

This collaborative exhibition explores themes of movement, place, memory, and the human relationship to landscape and home. Through distinct but complementary artistic practices, Christopher and Rebecca Talbot reflect on personal histories shaped by geography, migration, and a deep sense of place.

Rebecca Talbot’s sculptural work is informed by her formative years spent living in six different Latin American countries. Her experience as an immigrant fostered both a nomadic spirit and a powerful desire for rootedness, themes that are woven throughout her work. Now settled in the countryside of Nacogdoches, Texas, her sculptures explore the balance between movement and belonging, memory and permanence.

Christopher Talbot’s photographic practice is grounded in his own strong sense of place. Born in the Pacific Northwest and raised on the East Coast, his work reflects a lifelong connection to the Western landscape. An avid camper and photographer, Christopher examines how human activity shapes and transforms the land. He has been a member of the faculty at Stephen F. Austin State University for the past 21 years and currently serves as Director of the School of Art.

A public reception for the exhibition will be held on January 27 at 1 p.m. The reception is open to students, faculty, staff, and community members.
